Afternoon Demonstrations and Workshops
We host afternoon demonstrations / lectures from well known guest artists which cover a variety of subjects. We also hold workshops which are run by guest artists for those of you who want to get their hands dirty.
Demonstrations / Lectures
These afternoon demos are free to current paid-up members of the Association and open to non-members on payment of £5.00 at the door. They are held in the Lecture Theatre, Perth Art Gallery, 78 George Street, Perth PH1 5LB, commencing at 2pm and finishing by 4pm. Teas and coffees are served mid-way through, with nominal charge of £1.00 per cup.
Wheelchair accessible and induction loop operational.
Workshops
VENUE: The Scout Hall, Perth Academy. Enter by the school car park at the top of Murray Place
(off the Glasgow Rd. Perth). The scout hall is on the right past the janitor’s house. There is disabled parking only, directly outside the hall. Cars can be driven to the entrance to unload but must be parked elsewhere. Plenty of free street parking is available.
Workshops are held from 10am – 2.30pm, with a break for lunch. Please bring your own lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided. Please arrive about 9.45am to get set up.
FEE PER WORKSHOP: Member £20.00. Non-member £25.00.
Payment by cheque: make payable to The Perthshire Art Association. Please write your name & the date and title of the workshop on the back of your cheque.
Payment to be made at the time of booking (please do not post-date cheques).

GRAHAM WANDS
IMPRESSIONIST CITYSCAPE IN WATERCOLOUR
Graham is a Scottish artist currently working from his studio in Glamis. He works primarily in watercolour, painting large landscape and cityscapes which depict mood and atmosphere. Graham exhibits in galleries in Perth and Dundee as well as across Scotland.

TOM BARRON
AN ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONIST
DEMONSTRATION
Tom is the Gallery Director and Curator of City Contemporary Art Gallery on Charlotte St. Perth. Tom has been known for his loose impasto landscapes and seascapes in oils since 1998, however more recently he has been working with acrylics in an expressionistic style.

PETE GLEN
QUICK PORTRAITS USING CHARCOAL
AND PASTEL
Pete is a multi-media artist from Tayport, whose art practice focuses on relationships and places. He has recently completed his master’s in fine art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. His focus has been contemporary portraiture generated from a research entitled ‘Like Father Like Son?’

Tom Barron
ALLA PRIMA OIL LANDSCAPE
Tom will demonstrate in an Alla-prima fashion (a wet-on-wet technique), and you can paint along with him or use your own photo or sketch. This workshop is primarily so beginners can try out oils without having to buy first. Oil paint and brushes will be supplied for the workshop if you don’t have any.
All levels welcome. Oils.

STARTING A PORTRAIT IN ACRYLICS
Unlock the secrets of portrait painting in this hands-on acrylic workshop. Learn how to bring your subject to life starting with the essentials: preparing a tonal ground, sketching your composition directly with paint and building up your image through confident blocking in techniques.

LAND, SEA & SKIES: Inspiring Beauty & Art for All
This workshop will highlight Pete’s own art and his processes, and allow attendees an opportunity to create their own land/sea/skyscapes using a range of pastel, charcoal and crayon.

OLD, WORN & WEATHERED
As objects age, they can produce a range of interesting tones, textures, shapes and surfaces. Old buildings, old boats trees, hedges and stone dykes are all good subjects. Learning this technique will give your paintings more interest.

PAINTING SEASONAL FLORALS
Enjoy a relaxing workshop devoted to the art of floral watercolour. You will learn how to illustrate a variety of seasonal foliage and flowers, experimenting with a loose style ‘wet in wet’ technique.
The class is designed to introduce beginners to watercolour or if you are familiar to watercolour, help nurture and develop your own style.
Plenty of one-to-one guidance to help enhance your observation and expressive painting skill.
