Many congratulations to David Greenall from An Lanntair/Open Studios Hebrides for winning the 2023 Highland Art Prize with the artwork Crofts at South Dell/Croitean aig Dail bho Dheas. The winning artwork was selected by Ishbel Murray, the artist and art teacher based on the Isle of Lewis, and announced at a well-attended prize-giving at The Briggait in Glasgow today (Friday 20th October).
Outlining the reasoning for her choice, Ishbel Murray commented that: “David’s artwork captures the atmospheric essence of this crofting location by the sea through a highly sensitive use of colour involving the demanding method of blending pigment and wax to achieve a shimmering effect in an image that has been beautifully reduced to its essential elements.”
I am happy to inform all members of PAA that one of our members Sheila Garden, had her painting Napoleon Bay, Sheildaig, selected for the shortlist at the exhibition at Briggait in Glasgow.
Unfortunately Sheila did not win but she did sell her painting.
